As we close in on the year, it is time to look back at the smartphones that defined their respective segments. The year saw quite a few new companies launch smartphones in the Rs 10,000-20,000 budget aimed at buyers on a budget who do not want to compromise on the user experience. We have already seen the top smartphones in the Rs 5,000-10,000 price segment, and here are the top five smartphones launched this year that made a mark in the Rs 10,000-20,000 price bracket. Xiaomi Mi 3
The Chinese smartphone maker made its debut in India earlier this year, and has literally taken the market by storm. Despite the preconceived notions regarding Chinese companies, the high-end specifications on offer at an affordable price was too tempting for buyers. Not even Xiaomi’s often frustrating flash sale model would deter users as Flipkart constantly ran out of stocks every week in a matter of seconds. Unfortunately, the company has discontinued the Mi 3 in India. You can read our review of the smartphone here.
Huawei Honor 6
Huawei launched its sub-brand called Honor in India with budget smartphones that will exclusively be sold online. The first smartphone to launch under this brand is the Honor 6, and it is sold exclusively via Flipkart. With octa-core processor, full HD display, and decent photography capabilities, the smartphone offers a lot for the sub-Rs 20,000 price bracket.
Lenovo Vibe X2
Like the Honor 6, Lenovo’s Vibe X2 also offers a lot for its sub-Rs 20,000 price bracket. The smartphone boasts a unique multi-layered design that gives an impression of different colored layers stacked on top of each other. The unique design makes it stand out in the crowded market. It is another smartphone that is powered by an octa-core processor, and features full HD display, good photographic capabilities, and is also LTE-capable.
HTC Desire 816G
HTC launched the Desire 816 back in May this year, but for those who are on a budget, the company launched a more affordable Desire 816G. There is very little that differentiates the two handsets — processor and RAM to be precise. The smartphone offers specifications that are standard for this range, and a very capable camera as well.
