Transsion Holdings, the Chinese company behind brands like Tecno, Infinix and iTel, has emerged the fifth largest mobile handset player in the country. The company now accounts for an overall 4 percent market share in the first quarter of 2018.

The company’s growth in India is mainly driven by strong demand for its iTel-branded feature phones. According to Counterpoint Research, the feature phone market doubled in the first quarter of 2018 and iTel was the third largest brand in the segment with a market share of 9.4 percent. Transsion India has control over five different brands in the country: iTel, Tecno, Infinix, Spice and oraimo. Its Infinix brand is focused entirely on online smartphone market while Tecno caters to offline segment.

The iTel and Spice brands are aimed at feature phones and entry-level smartphone segment while its oraimo brand is centered around accessories. Transsion says it has a robust pan-India presence with a deep distribution network of 1.05 lakh retailers and 3,000 plus channel partners.

It is on the verge of breaking into the top ten smartphone brands in India.
