Following the Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus launch, Truecaller has announced the updated version of its app for iOS 10 which brings some key features that were previously missing. Truecaller will use the new CallKit Extension API released by Apple to bring spam protection on iPhones. At the WWDC 2016, Apple detailed the caller ID extension that will enable developers to identify spam calls, and Truecaller has implemented the same in its iOS 10 app. Also Read - Apple TV Plus for free: PS5 owners get six months subscription free of costAlso Read - This photo shot with iPhone X by an Indian wins iPhone Photography Awards
In a press release, Truecaller highlighted the fact that Indian users receive over 300 million unwanted calls every month, and the need to identify these spam calls has now become important. Truecaller can now identify and display whether the call is from a reputable business or if it has been reported as spam. Essentially, if a lot of users have reported the number as spam, it will show up on the screen, and you can avoid picking the calls. Truecaller can also identify and alert about calls that you may be getting from a Pizza delivery guy or courier company. Also, with this information, you will no longer need to manually search for unknown numbers in case the call is left unanswered.
Working closely with Apple over the past few months, we re proud to bring a call solution to your iPhone to provide safe and authentic communication, says Tom Hsieh, VP Partnerships & Growth at Truecaller. With the massive increase in robocalls, telemarketing and phone scams, it s more important than ever to know who s calling you. In our early testing, we ve seen Spam detection rates on iPhone increase by more than 50% in some markets, reaching upwards of 90% of all spam calls made to our users. And with our dogged focus on data quality, we fully expect these rates to continue improving for the benefit of our user, Hsieh added. To activate the feature, users need to head over to Settings > Phone > Call Blocking and Identification, and turn on.
Last month, Truecaller also revealed that more than 500 million calls are made using the Truecaller Android app on monthly basis.
