Twitter has of late announced some major changes such as excluding links within 140-character limit, and also launched a revamped Android app. Now, the social networking company has rolled out a new feature that allows users to retweet and quote their own posts. The new feature will do away with the hassle of taking a screenshot of their older posts or add links for older tweets. However, Twitter’s new feature hasn’t gone down well with several users who believe this move will only encourage narcissism on the social networking platform. The notion reminds us of a two-year old study that claimed Twitter is the safest haven for the narcissists. That said, not just Twitter but other social networking platforms such as Instagram and Facebook have also been slammed for encouraging narcissism. Twitter would seem to be a perfect venue for narcissists because it allows individuals to answer the question, ‘What are you doing?’ via messages of 140 characters or less. The belief that there is an audience interested in following one’s moment-to-moment postings suggests egocentrism, self-aggrandizement, and self-importance the very characteristics of narcissistic individuals,” psychologist Bruce McKinney had written in a paper for the journal Communication Research Reports.
