Twitter has reportedly started rolling out a new video feature that will allow the content providers to host a video, and let other Twitter users preview thumbnails of video clips in their timeline feeds and watch these on a single click without having to leave the Twitter app. Also Read - Explained: Can Twitter get banned in India?
Currently, Twitter users have to click on the video links with tweets or get a thumbnail preview of the video in a card style. Clicking on these video links takes users to a third party app or browser to watch the video clip. This new feature will let hosted videos function similar to the Vine videos in the company’s official mobile apps. One can pre-roll as well as dismiss the video by selecting the corresponding option, and can tap again to see basic playback controls given at the bottom of the video screen. The microblogging site has offered this new video display format to select partners, starting with the NBA (National Basketball Association) which was the first one to host a video using this feature, The New York Times reports. The company plans to allow 60 more companies to use this platform under its Amplify video advertising program.
This in-line video playback is available for Twitter app users for iOS and Android, and on twitter.com.
