“If you choose to add your birthday to your profile, it will be displayed to the audience that you ve chosen. It will also be used to customize your Twitter experience. For example, we will use your birthday to show you more relevant content, including ads,” the company wrote.
This birthday feature will help them target the right audience much more effectively, thus giving them more leverage to pitch their product to advertisers.
To showcase how this new feature works, the site used actor Kevin Hart’s profile, whose birthday happens to be today. If you head over to his profile, you will see colorful e-balloons popping out from below the screen. On the left where the profile bio and Twitter handle are mentioned, it now also has an added line letting users know that it is Hart’s birthday today.
Apart from this new birthday feature, Twitter recently also rolled out a new autoplay feature that will now be able to automatically play video ads, Vines, and GIFs inside tweets. Twitter also aims to become a messaging app like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, and to this effect, it raised the character limit on direct messages from 140 to a whopping 10,000.
