Twitter today announced a new feature that will enable users to comment on retweets without having to truncate the original tweet in order to fit the 140 character limit. The “retweets with comment” feature has been in the works for long and has been rolled out for iPhone and web users, and is coming to Android soon.
Earlier, one had to manually retweet and add comments to it, which often meant having to edit or remove parts of the tweet. With the new quote tweet feature, Twitter will embed the original tweet and users will get about 116 characters to add their comments.
Techcrunch had earlier featured how ex-Twitter VP Jason Goldman had built an app called OneShot that captured screenshots of the tweets or a certain section of the tweet and post it as a picture along with the comment users want to add. Plenty of Tools like Twitlonger and JumboTweet extend the 140-charater limit in Twitter but the “retweet with comment” feature will have its own advantages especially when we take into account the security perils from logging into a third party app.
