Uber first teased the arrival of the car-service in Kochi by pushing a secret fleet in the city and letting few privileged users take the Ride Zero flagging off the service in the city. “In a multi-faceted city like Kochi where transportation alternatives are few and far between, Uber is bringing its hassle-free, safe, reliable, and affordable transportation to every local and tourist in town,” the company announced on its official blog. The company said that the roll out is in its initial phase and customers should expect longer ETAs as currently only few cars are deployed on the streets. However, they are working towards making available sufficient cars to make Uber services smooth and efficient. They even announced a launch day offer and are giving away two free rides for up to Rs 300 each if Uber users use the promo code UberKochiLaunch while booking a ride through the app.
Recently, Uber was under the RBI scanner for its payment methods that evade the two-step identification mandate. Uber partnered with Paytm to eradicate the flaw and are currently in talks with the government over alleged sales tax violation. Uber currently also provides cheaper UberX and UberGo
Globally, Uber executives are also attracting flak for threatening comments against journalists and unfair practices against its drivers.
