Uber CEO Travis Kalanick’s family suffered a tragic event this weekend. Bonnie Kalanick, mother of Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, was killed in a boating accident. The sheriff’s office posted a statement from Uber that read, “Last night Travis and his family suffered an unspeakable tragedy. His mother passed away in a devastating boating accident near Fresno and his father is in serious condition. According to a preliminary report, the accident occurred at Pine Flat Lake in Fresno, California, after the Kalanick’s boat hit a rock and later sank. Fresno County Sheriff’s Dive Team and Boating Enforcement Unit recovered the wrecked boat from the lake. Fresno authorities say, Donald Kalanick “had some scratches some bruises, but seemed fine – conscious and breathing.” He was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center. Other than Travis parents’ their pet dog was also on the boat with them during the crash. The dog is said to be safe. An investigation into the accident is underway, the sheriff’s department said.
On Mother’s Day, Travis shared photos of him and his mother from his childhood on Facebook. “As time goes on, I appreciate my mom, her infinite love and huge [heart] more and more,” he wrote.
An autopsy was held over the weekend. Travis Kalanick’s mother, Bonnie, was 71.
