At a time when misbehaviour and bad service by Uber drivers tends to make the news more often than acts of kindness and respect, this latest report will come as refreshing story for people that use the Uber ride-hailing platform in India. A rider has shared a story of an Uber driver that chose to accompany her mother and her for an hour and a half in the middle of the night, in order to ensure they stayed safe.

The rider, Priyashmita Guha, has shared a tweet to Uber India telling of the story and praising her driver for that ride, Santosh. Although the location of the ride isn’t mentioned in the tweet, the account mentions that the rider and her mother were dropped off at 1AM but found the gate of the destination locked. Given that it was late at night and the ladies were out in the open, the driver chose to accompany them for about 90 minutes till they were able to enter the gate and go indoors.

The 4.79-star rated driver made an impact on his passengers that night, thanks to his choosing to wait rather than leaving and continuing his shift. Given that most places in the country tend to be unsafe for anyone – especially women – late at night, it was an appreciable gesture that reassured the passengers until they were able to enter the gate to their destination.

Uber India has also replied to the passenger, indicating that the driver Santosh has been told that his gesture has won praise on social media. The company further felicitated the driver and posted an image on its social media handles. Thus marks a happy end to an uncharacteristically positive story involving Uber India.
