Launched initially in Los Angeles in 2014, Uber Eats came to India not until May 2017, when it started its operation in Mumbai. But ever since then, the online food delivery app has grown at a rapid pace in the country. Only in the last 6 weeks, the company has expanded its operations in 11 cities across the country. Now the company has further announced its plans to bring its services in five more cities.

Uber Eats, which is the world’s largest food delivery network is now coming to Tiruchirappalli, Surat, Nashik, Ludhiana and Mysore. With these five cities, Uber Eats would have successfully launched its operations in 28 cities across India. With the growing number of cities, the focus also seems to be shifting towards Tier 2 cities to look for more opportunities.

Bhavik Rathod, Head of Uber Eats, India, stated in a press release “India continues to be the fastest growing market for Uber Eats in the Asia Pacific region and globally. As urbanization picks up in the country, we look for opportunities to take our service to newer cities and expand our network, especially in Tier 2 cities, which we believe, offer tremendous potential for the food tech industry. We look forward to continue to learn from our experience in India and make food ordering effortless for everyone.”

With its high pace growth, Uber Eats claims to have quadrupled the number of orders in the last three months. That accounts for about 50 percent month-on-month growth. Currently, the service has more than 18,000 restaurant partners across the country, with its strongest presence being in south of India. Only a month back, the company expanded its operation in Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur in Kerala.
