Even though ride-sharing is still (and for the foreseeable future, will be) Uber’s core business, the company has expanded into other segments. After introducing Uber Eats, its food-delivery service, in 2014, the company has now announced that it is launching gift cards in India.
Uber’s new gift cards will be redeemable for payments on both Uber and Uber Eats. The cards can be purchased on Paytm and several other online platforms. Uber has partnered with Qwickcilver Solutions for issuing its gift cards. Using the cards, Uber users can now gift rides or meals to their friends and family members.
Redeeming an Uber gift is easy. A user has to first go to the Payment section in the Uber app. Then, they must tap ‘Add Payment Method’ option and select Gift Card. Lastly, they must enter the gift card’s code, following which the Uber credits will be added to their account.
Commenting on the launch, Madhu Kannan, Chief Business Officer for India and Emerging markets, said, “At Uber we are continuously innovating to make the experience of our users enjoyable and convenient. The upcoming festive season gives us the perfect opportunity to launch the Uber Gift Card, a first-of-its-kind initiative combining fantastic offers across food and transportation at the tap of a button. Paytm has been a long-standing partner in bringing technology enabled convenience to the Indian consumer, and we’re proud to take this partnership a step further with our first Uber Gift Card offering in India.”
