The ongoing strike of drivers in Mumbai working with Ola and Uber, the two biggest ride-hailing platforms in the country, has entered its second week. This means that commuters will have to endure more hassle in the coming days for their daily transportation needs. Maharashtra Rajya Rashtriya Kamgar Sangh, which called the strike to protest low incomes of drivers working with the two ride-sharing services, said that 90-percent of cabs are off Mumbai s roads, and the stir would continue until their demands are met . We will take our morcha on Monday from Andheri in front of Ola s office, Sunil Borkar, secretary of the association, was quoted as saying in an ET report. He further added that the association is also planning to meet with Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis over the issue.

Several drivers have committed suicide because their income is failing, and they are not able to repay loans. We will not end the strike till the demands are met, said Borkar.

It s worth mentioning that last month, Uber had approached the Bombay High Court, alleging violence against its drivers from those behind the strike, and requesting assistance from authorities for the drivers safety.

According to previous reports, the drivers want a hike in both minimum fare and per kilometer charge. While they want the minimum fare to be between Rs 100 and Rs 150, their demand for per km charge is something between Rs 18 and Rs 23, based on the type of the car.
