Wifi Dabba

Reliance Jio stirred the telecom industry with its first free, and now affordable data plans. Wifi Dabba offers its internet services only in Bengaluru. There are three plans on offer with validity for 24 hours. The cheapest is priced at Rs 2 and offers 100MB data, with the second one offering 500MB at Rs 10. The third plan is priced at Rs 20 and offers 1GB of data. Interestingly, these recharge tokens can be bought at local tea stalls and bakeries. Users can login to any available Wi-Fi network with their mobile number.

Uber hacking incident

Uber’s hacking incident reportedly occurred in October 2016 where 50 million customers had their names, e-mails, addresses, and phone numbers stolen, while 7 million drivers had their personal information and driver’s licence compromised. Uber’s co-founder Travis Kalanick is said to have known about the attack but chose not to report it. Uber’s Chief Security Officer Joe Sullivan along with a deputy is said to have paid the hackers $100,000 to close down the matter.

New storage variant of Mi Note 3

The more affordable variant of the Mi Note 3 comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It is priced at RMB 1,999 (Rs 19,500 approximately), and it will be available in blue color from November 23 in China. Earlier, Xiaomi had launched the Mi Note 3 with 6GB of RAM and two storage options of 64GB and 128GB. The Mi Note 3’s highlight is facial recognition for biometric authentication, and also its AI-powered 16-megapixel selfie camera.

Google collects location data without user’s permission

Google’s location services can be turned off manually or when you’re not using any app that requires the service. However it is reported that since early 2017, Google has been collecting addresses of nearby cell towers of almost all Android smartphones. Google stated that it had started “looking into using Cell ID codes as an additional signal to further improve the speed and performance of message delivery”. However, Google assures that none of the data collected has been stored or used.

Xiaomi Mi Exchange Program

Xiaomi’s Mi Exchange Program, as the name suggests allows users to exchange their old Xiaomi smartphones for new ones. Xiaomi has tied up with Delhi-based Cashify, and this company will determine the exchange rate for the devices. You can visit a nearby Mi Home store and exchange your old Xiaomi device. You can also check the exchange rates on Cashify app and website.
