Uber is launching in Mumbai today in testing phase, BGR India has exclusively learned. The premium car pick up service will initially launch around South Mumbai (Town) and around Bandra. Uber will ramp it up to other parts of the city eventually. Mumbai will be the fifth Indian city where Uber has launched its services, making it the country with the most number of cities where Uber has launched outside of the United States. In testing phase, Uber will price its services at a base fare of Rs 100, with Rs 17 per kilometre and Rs 2 per minute. There will be a minimum fare of Rs 200, just like it is in other Indian cities. However, we expect this to rise later, just like it did in New Delhi last month where the base fare is now Rs 90 (up from Rs 70), Rs 25 per kilometre (up from Rs 20) and Rs 2 per minute (unchanged). Initially the fleet in Mumbai will have Toyota Corolla Altis, Honda Accord, Toyota Innova and Mercedes Benz E-Class.
