Uber is planning to launch its premium cab service in Pune tomorrow, BGR India has exclusively learned. This will be the sixth Indian city where Uber will have its operations after Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Mumbai.
The San Francisco based startup is already present in over 36 countries and more than 100 cities. It launched in India nine months ago. On the sidelines of its Mumbai launch earlier this year, the company claimed it witnessed higher demand in every subsequent Indian city it has launched.
In Pune, Uber will have an interesting fleet of cars that include the Renault Duster, Toyota Innova, Nissan Sunny, BMW 3 Series, Toyota Fortuner, Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Vento.
Pune will have one of the most affordable tariffs than any other Indian city. The base fare will be Rs 80 with Rs 15/km and Rs 2/minute. The minimum fare and cancellation fee will be Rs 150 each.
Uber will launch the service in testing mode and will initially have limited number of cars on the road.
Unlike other taxi services, Uber claims it is a technology company that facilitates users to get car rides via its app that connects available rides on the road. It doesn’t own a car fleet of its own. In India Uber has tied up with car fleet owners to have their cars on its network. You can download the app from here.
BGR India readers in Pune can use the code BGRPUNE in the app to get up to Rs 500 off on their first ride. The code is applicable to new Uber users only and is valid till August 31, 2014.
