Uber has introduced a new “SOS” button in India that will send real-time SOS alert to the nearest local police and also include trip information like the exact location of the cab, the drivers ID and the car number.Uber safety experts will set up dedicated monitors in PCR (Police Control Rooms) which will beam the real time location of the car. All passengers need to do is press the SOS button which will trigger a ‘SOS alert’ sent directly to the local PCR. Another good bit is that the app will allow you to connect automatically with the law enforcement over the phone. The SOS alert will in turn contain multitudes of information consisting of the vehicle details and real time location tracking on the dedicated monitor. The feature has already been beta tested in Kolkata and Uber will soon start rolling out this feature other Indian cities where it is operational. It is good to see that the company has taken into consideration the hues and cries of Transport department and the general public after the gruesome Delhi rape incident in December last year. As of now all the other cab aggregators including Ola and Taxiforsure give an option to share your ride details with friends and also program a SOS number of your near ones.
