A few Uber users have been unable to pay for their rides via the stored cash on their Paytm wallets. When choosing the wallet option, the app shows an error, charge declined . Alternatively, while the spotlight has been on the company for bringing back credit card payment option, users are said to be unable to add a new credit card. One of the customers was unable to add his Amex card to the app, this despite the company saying that it now accepts both international as well as domestic credit cards. BGR India has reached out to Uber regarding these issues, and will update the story once we hear from them.
Uber stopped accepting credit card payments last year after RBI asked it to implement two-factor authentication on its app for credit card transactions in India, which was the law in cases the credit card was not physically present at the time of transaction.
Uber was trying to use a loophole that allowed companies outside India to go through online transactions without two-factor authentication. After calling the two-factor authentication cumbersome, Uber then tied up with Paytm to use its mobile wallet and to fall in line with RBI s guidelines.
As mentioned above, Uber has however now brought back the credit card payment system to India. It says that the new payment system includes the 2FA security system in line with RBI s guidelines. The feature is currently only available for Android users, while iOS users will have to wait awhile.
