Custom ROMs have always been the main attraction for the Android Open Source community. When software support from OEMs was not a pressing issue, custom ROMs were the means to enjoy unfiltered access to some of the best Android features, that you would otherwise not get on stock software. CyanogenMod ROM was the famous aftermarket software until the project was shut down. It is now replaced by LineageOS, and if you’re using the latest OnePlus 6, there’s some good news in store.
Thanks to Google’s Project Treble, LineageOS 15.1 has reached the OnePlus 6, faster than before for any other version. Although it is still in its early development phase, you can install it on your OnePlus 6 right away. And besides LineageOS 15.1, the Resurrection Remix ROM is also available, giving you an option to choose from.

As of now, there are no experimental or nightly builds of LineageOS 15.1 for the OnePlus 6. XDA Recognized Developer phhusson has only released the Alpha build, where you will have to flash the boot image file on the A/B partition of the system. Once the boot image is installed, you will then have to flash the system.ini file using ADB and Fastboot tools offered by Google.
However, some users have reported bootloop errors after flashing the ROM. Changing the boot path of the system file seems to fix the error though. As the ROM is in Alpha stage, we’d won’t recommend installing it on a device that you use as your daily driver. However, if you are a little adventurous and want to try out the ROM before everyone else, then head over to XDA Developers forum on OnePlus 6 page to download and follow the installation instructions.
