After Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav gladly announced his move to make Aamir Khan’s latest movie PK tax-free, the politician got dragged into a rather uncalled for controversy. In his statement, he offhandedly said that he had ‘downloaded’ and watched the movie, hence mistakenly revealing that he indulged in piracy. Soon after, Twitteratis lashed out at him demanding an explanation. Speaking in defense of these piracy allegations, Yadav has now released an official detailed statement on the official UP CM’s office Twitter handle explaining the use of legal authorized methods to watch the movie online. In the statement, it is claimed that the CM watched the movie using Club X media server. “The screening of PK was done on Club X media server installed at Akhilesh Yadav’s residence. The Club X service enables authorized private screenings of movies at Club X licensed auditorium of its members. Movies can be screened from the date of their theatrical release in India,” it read.

The statement read that not everyone can use this service, and a license is required for it. “Movies are delivered to the Club X media servers over a captive satellite network or are physically delivered and are stored in a digitally encrypted form. A license is required to playback the movie each time and is issued base had upon the authorization received from the content owners.”

The statement further asserts that this Club X service is a commercial service with all the necessary authorizations from the content providers. “This screening was done with a licence which was issued specifically for this screening. Assumptions about downloading a movie over the internet and any unauthorised used are baseless,” the statement ended.

This elaborate statement comes after the CM’s office had earlier tweeted that Akhilesh Yadav had licensed UFO Moviez’ digital facility to download and watch movies.

Some, however, are still not convinced with this statement and expect the CM to come out of the closet and admit piracy.
