Upcoming Apple iPhones could offer dual SIM support

Apple will be launching dual SIM variants in China to compete better with Android counterparts

According to a new report, two of the three Apple iPhones the company is rumored to launch this September will carry dual SIM card support. However, these variants will only be available in China, as Apple SIM is not supported in the country. Apple iPhones expected to launch in other markets will continue to have only a single SIM.

Apple offers dual SIM support through Apple SIM, which comes embedded in the device. It is a virtual SIM, which allows users to quickly switch service providers, based on pricing, connectivity and other features. Apple introduced the Apple SIM with iPad Air 2 and offers the service currently in 180 countries.

But as Apple SIM is not supported in China, 21st Century Business Herald, reports that two new iPhones will be coming with a dual SIM card tray. The report further states that doing so will help boost iPhone sales in the Asian and the African market. Nearly 3-4 million people in the country use multiple SIM cards. It’s also a pretty common feature and almost every Android smartphone today comes with Dual SIM support. This will allow Apple to compete better with Android smartphones in these markets.

That said, the report doesn’t state which of the two phones will be supporting dual SIMs. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the budget 6.1-inch iPhone X and the higher-end 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus could be the ones sporting that feature. He claims that the dual-SIM variants will be priced separately to the singe SIM variants, creating another price segment for Apple. However, nothing is confirmed yet and we can only ask the readers to take the news with a pinch of salt.
