Vivo V9, the next selfie-centric smartphone from the Chinese smartphone maker, will launch in India on March 23. The smartphone was initially expected to launch on March 27 but the company decided to prepone the announcement in order to avoid clash with Oppo F7 launch next week. Now, Vivo has gone ahead to launch the device in few Southeast Asian markets.
Vivo V9 has been officially launched in Thailand and is expected to become official later in the day in Philippines as well. Vivo is not shy of showing off the vertically stacked dual rear camera setup that matches iPhone X from every dimension. There is also a notch at the front of the display which matches the design seen on Oppo R15 and R15 Dream Mirror Edition.
Vivo V9 Specifications and Price
The visual change that becomes prominently visible is the reduced bezels surrounding the display. Vivo has further trimmed the chin to give V9 the look of an edge-to-edge display design. The smartphone features a 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels, translating to an aspect ratio of 19:9. The whole smartphone industry is taking a different stance for display resolution with most adopting 18:9 as standard, Samsung going with 18.5:9, Vivo and its sister brands choosing 19:9. The display comes with a 2.5D curved glass on top for a more seamless design and one that makes it look as if the display is converging onto the frame.
Under the hood, there is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 processor coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The smartphone also supports expandable storage up to 256GB via microSD card slot. There is a dual rear camera setup at the back similar to iPhone X that deploys a combination of 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. There is also a 24-megapixel selfie camera with array of software-based beauty enhancement features that we have come to expect from Vivo smartphones. The smartphone also supports face unlock feature and comes with augmented reality stickers.
On the connectivity front, the Vivo V9 suppors WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and LTE. The dual-SIM smartphone runs Funtouch OS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo and supports all Google-branded services. The smartphone is backed by a 3,260mAh battery and relies on microUSB port for charging. The Vivo V9 features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and will be available in black and gold color options. There is no word on its pricing just yet but the smartphone is likely to be priced under Rs 30,000 when it becomes official tomorrow for the Indian market.
