Vivo has launched V9 Pro, a new smartphone in the online market that will challenge smartphones from Samsung, Motorola and HMD Global’s Nokia. With V9 Pro, Vivo is further expanding its mid-range segment as it sees increased competition and decline in market share.
Vivo V9 Pro is not much different from the regular Vivo V9 but offers 6GB of RAM as opposed to 4GB RAM seen on the standard model. It also gets faster and efficient Snapdragon 660 SoC and a retail price that makes it competitive for the sub-Rs 20,000 price segment. In India, Vivo V9 Pro will compete with models like the Motorola One Power, Nokia 6.1 Plus and Samsung Galaxy J8. Here is how the four devices stack up against each other.
Design and Display
Vivo V9 Pro borrows the design from Vivo V9 with thin bezels at the front and a metal unibody design on the back. In this price segment, Nokia 6.1 Plus offers most unique design with really thin bezels at the front and a glass back that makes it look extremely premium for the price. While all the devices are built to last, the Nokia 6.1 Plus looks the most striking of the four devices.
Motorola One Power, with its large battery, has a rather clunky design with plastic back, which makes it not the most attractive smartphone from the company yet. Samsung Galaxy J8, on the other hand, has a design that is similar to most budget Samsung devices with a plastic and a display supporting taller 18:9 aspect ratio at the front.
The Vivo V9 has the biggest display of the pack with 6.3-inch display supporting a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio. The Nokia 6.1 Plus has a 5.8-inch display with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels, 19:9 aspect ratio and denser pixels. If you like compact phones then you will like the Nokia 6.1 Plus for its compact form factor supporting bigger display. The Motorola One Power has a 6.2-inch Full HD+ display while the Galaxy J8 has a 6-inch display with HD+ display.

Specifications and Camera
Vivo V9 Pro is all about performance and efficiency and Vivo is achieving that by pairing a Snapdragon 660 SoC with 6GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage. The Nokia 6.1 Plus and Motorola One Power get Snapdragon 636 SoC with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The Samsung Galaxy J8 seems very much stuck in time with Snapdragon 450 SoC. It is clear that Vivo V9 Pro has the fastest processor of the pack but Nokia 6.1 Plus and Motorola One Power with processors using custom Kyro cores are not far behind.
On the camera front, the Nokia 6.1 Plus, Motorola One Power and Samsung Galaxy J8 feature dual rear camera setup. All the three phones feature a combination of 16-megapixel and 5-megapixel cameras. The Vivo V9 Pro has a combination of 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel dual rear camera setup. The secondary cameras on the all the four devices act as depth sensor and do not serve any other purpose.
The Vivo V9 Pro, Nokia 6.1 Plus and Samsung Galaxy J8 get 16-megapixel shooter for selfies while Motorola One Power has a 12-megapixel selfie camera. Motorola One Power is the battery king here with 5,000mAh battery while the Vivo V9 Pro, Nokia 6.1 Plus and Samsung Galaxy J8 have 3,260mAh, 3,060mAh and 3,500mAh battery packs respectively.
Software and Pricing
Vivo V9 Pro runs Android 8.1 Oreo with Funtouch OS 4.0 while Nokia 6.1 Plus and Motorola One Power also run Android 8.1 Oreo with Android One branding.
