Vivo V9 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro vs Honor 9i vs Moto X4: Prices, specifications, features compared

Here's how to Vivo V9 fares against contemporaries Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, Honor 9i, and Moto X4.

Vivo V9 launched today at a price of Rs 22,990. The smartphone brings a line of premium features including a notch design, dual cameras, and more. While the V9 does not bring the in-display fingerprint sensing technology to India, it does include the newer Face Unlock feature.

At the given price, the Vivo V9 will face competition from the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, the latest affordable feature-rich phone in the market, the Honor 9i, one that boasts dual cameras on both sides, and the Moto X4, which packs up to 6GB of RAM and also sports dual cameras. Here’s how all the smartphones fare against each other on various parameters.


Vivo V9 is priced at Rs 22,990. It is available only in one model and will go on pre-booking from March 23 and will start shipping from April 2, 2018.  The smartphone will sell via online and offline channels. Pre-bookings open at 3:00PM today, and there are a bunch of launch day offers on the device.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is priced at Rs 13,999 for the base model with 4GB+64GB internal storage, and Rs 16,999 for the 6GB+64GB version. The Redmi Note 5 is an even affordable version with prices starting at Rs 9,999. Honor 9i is priced at Rs 17,999, and is available only as a single model. The Moto X4, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 20,999 with its 4GB version priced at Rs 22,999, and the 6GB model priced at Rs 24,999.


The display is one of the differentiating factors between the smartphones here. The Vivo V9 is one of the newest smartphones to pack a 19:9 display with the iPhone X-like notch. It packs a 6.3-inch IPS LCD edge-to-edge display. The notch includes the earpiece, proximity sensor, and the front camera.

Redmi Note 5 Pro packs a 5.99-inch full HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The Honor 9i is equipped with the similar 5.9-inch IPS display but offering QHD+ (1080×2160 pixels) resolution. In contrast, the Moto X4, features a 5.2-inch LTPS IPS display with full HD (1080×1920 pixels) resolution.

While all the smartphones listed here boast narrow bezel design, the Vivo V9 differs because of the presence of the notch and the Moto X4 varies because of the presence of the regular bezels on the top and bottom.


Talking about the chipsets, the Vivo V9 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 octa-core SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. You can use the microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 256GB. It is fueled by a 3,260mAh battery.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro is equipped by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core SoC with choice of 4GB/6GB of RAM with 64GB of internal storage which is expandable via microSD card. As for the battery, there’s a massive 4,000mAh battery keeping things ticking.

Honor 9i is powered by Huawei Kirin 659 octa-core SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card. It is fueled by a 3,340mAh battery. Moto X4, on the other hand, is powered by  Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 octa-core SoC paired with 3GB/4GB/6GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 2TB via microSD card. It is fueled by a 3,000mAh battery. So essentially, the Redmi Note 5 Pro offers you the most battery backup and RAM option, while the storage expansion is the maximum on the Moto X4.


All smartphones here are equipped with dual-camera setups at the back. The Vivo V9 includes a combination of 16-megapixel + 5-megapixel sensors at the back with AI enhancements for DSLR-like output. Up front, there’s a 24-megapixel selfie camera that comes with AI capabilities for Portrait Mode.

Redmi Note 5 Pro includes a combination of 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel sensors, supported by LED flash. In addition to that, there’s a dedicated LED flash for the Sony IMX376 20-megapixel sensor on the front.

Honor 9i is the only smartphone here which comprises of the dual-camera setup on the front as well as the back. It includes a combination of 16-megapixel + 2-megapixel sensors at the back and 13-megapixel + 2-megapixel sensors at the front. It is worth mentioning that the AI-enabled front camera software these days are as advanced as dedicated second sensors and thus, the output completely varies from one device to the other.

Moto X4 is equipped with a combination of 12-megapixel dual auto-focus sensor with f/2.0 aperture, and 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle sensor at the back. Up front, there’s a 16-megapixel sensor with dedicated flash.

OS and connectivity

All the smartphone, except for the Vivo V9, run Android Nougat out-of-the-box. The Redmi Note 5 Pro runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat layered with custom MIUI 9 skin. The Honor 9i also runs the EMUI 5.1 based Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. Moto X4, on the other hand, runs Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box. In comparison, the Vivo V9 runs the latest Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box.

The smartphones support storage expansion, dual-SIM, 4G LTE, and feature dedicated fingerprint sensors. All feature the fingerprint sensors at the back, with the exception of the Moto X4 which features the sensor embedded in the home button on the front. It is worth noting that the Vivo V9 comes with Face Unlock feature which allows you to replicate the iPhone X-like authentication process on the mid-ranger.
