After quietly launching the phone in select south Asian markets, Vivo has now launched its new V9 in India. The phone is priced at Rs 22,990, and go on sale from April 2 via online and offline channels through Vivo’s extensive dealer network in India. Pre-bookings for the new smartphone will kick off on March 23. The Vivo V9 is notable because of its design, which incorporates a 6.3-inch edge-to-edge screen with a 19:9 aspect ratio, and a ‘notch’ for the earpiece, proximity sensor and front camera.
The Vivo V9 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 SoC, and comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. From its specifications, its clear that this is a mid-range smartphone and performs as such. However, the key features of this phone are the screen and design. The phone’s full HD screen is designed as an edge-to-edge display on three sides, with a narrow strip of non-screen space at the bottom. At the top is a narrow notch for the three components mentioned above.
Naturally, comparisons will be made to the Apple iPhone X. The premium device from Apple was launched last year as the tenth anniversary edition of the iPhone, which was launched in 2007, and changed the shape of the smartphone segment for the years to come. However, comparisons can also be drawn to a handful of other Android smartphones, including the Oppo F7 that’s scheduled to launch early next week, and the Asus Zenfone 5 (2018) which was launched last month at MWC 2018.
The Vivo V9 will appeal to a lot of buyers for multiple reasons. For one, easy offline availability through an extensive dealer network makes the phone easy to purchase for a lot of buyers. Additionally, the stunning design will work for many users who will be pleased to have an otherwise compact phone with such a large screen, as well as the obvious resemblance to the much more desirable and premium Apple iPhone X.
