Vivo could be the first smartphone maker to embrace the notch-style design first seen on Apple’s iPhone X. Alleged leaked render of Vivo’s upcoming X30 shows the front side of the device with a notch similar to that of iPhone X. The leak shows that Vivo X30 will not have edge-to-edge display like the iPhone X but offer a thinner chin than other bezel-less Android smartphones. The render also suggests that Vivo is shaving off a lot of bezels from the sides of the display making it appear as if the front is entirely dominated by the screen. Vivo X30 is expected to be the successor to existing X20 series, and its design has leaked quite a few times in the past. The smartphone seems to look similar to X20 Plus overall with some new elements that could make its way down to upcoming Oppo and OnePlus smartphones. In direct comparison with iPhone X, the notch on the X30 is smaller suggesting it will not have camera technology like the TrueDepth cameras on the Apple device.
The notch seems to be home to front-facing camera, sensors and an earpiece, which is a standard design. While there is no clarity on the specifications of X30 just yet, it is safe to assume that the device will be a mid-range device like its predecessor.
The Vivo X30 could be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 processor or the rumored Snapdragon 670. The base variant could launch with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage while a higher end model could jump to 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Like X20 series, the leaked X30 should feature an unibody metal design and offer dual rear camera setup.
Vivo recently launched X20 Plus UD, the first smartphone in the world to feature an under-display fingerprint sensor. The X30 could also feature an under-display fingerprint sensor adopted from the X20 Plus UD. Vivo is currently the fifth largest smartphone brand globally and has been consistently outperforming its peers with new devices and technology. The X20 and X20 Plus launched in October and its replacement is expected to arrive sometime during the same period.
