Vodafone today has announced a collaboration with ICICI bank to launch its m-pesa service in Delhi and NCR region. Vodafone and ICICI started the m-pesa service in December last year, and have so far launched this service in east India and later in Rajasthan. One can use this service for transferring money to any mobile network in India, deposit and withdraw cash from designated outlets, remit money to any bank account in India, recharge phones, pay bills, and use it for other payment related services like DTH service subscriptions as well. Users will also be able to use this service to shop at select outlets.
The m-pesa service will be available across 130 Vodafone exclusive retail outlets in Delhi and NCR region, and the company is claiming to have trained 1,400 authorized agents to provide this service. Those interested in opening an m-pesa account can go to an authorized agent, do the documentation related formalities and pay a minimum of Rs 200 as the registration fee to open the account. Out of this amount, the company will charge Rs 100 to activate the service and will credit the user’s account with the rest of the Rs 100.
After paying the fee, user can then dial *400* and follow the guidelines, and use the registration pin code to authorize their account. Customers will also have to pay at least Rs 10 as utility charges, every time they would transact money using the service.
