The telecom game is becoming more intense by the minute, and we have been witnessing this trend for over a year now. While Reliance Jio and Airtel have been competing neck to neck, Vodafone has also been making a lot of changes and plan revisions lately, to stay up in the game. In a similar effort, Vodafone is reportedly working on releasing converged fast broadband solutions in India. Also Read - Jio launches in-flight data and voice calling plans for Postpaid Plus users

BGR India reached out to Vodafone India to confirm the same, however, a response is still awaited. Also Read - Jio likely to launch affordable Android phones in India by Dec 2020: Report

As reported by ET, this means, similar to Reliance Jio, Vodafone may soon be bundling wired home broadband packs with 3G/4G mobile services. This may leverage the fixed broadband resources of YOU Broadband, an ISP Vodafone acquired almost a year ago, apparently for an estimate of Rs 400 crore.

“Vodafone’s converged broadband solutions business model, combining fixed-line and mobile services is popular in key international markets such as the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands, and may soon be replicated in India by leveraging subsidiary YOU’s resources, amid surging data consumption levels,” ET reports a person with direct knowledge of the matter as saying.

Quite interestingly, the news Vodafone s plans to unveil the broadband services in India comes when Reliance Jio is also reportedly known to be running trials of its ultra-fast fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services in key data markets like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, ahead of a commercial launch likely later this year. As the company now aims to expand its data offerings, JioFiber is expected to replicate the level of popularity with its initial free offering of 100Mbps broadband speeds. Under the preview offers, JioFiber users are availing 100GB of free data per month.

Bringing the same rage the telecom sector saw, to the available broadband services, introduction of JioFiber and Vodafone s new converged broadband, is likely to trigger existing broadband providers such as Airtel Broadband, ACT Fiber, BSNL, and MTNL to further drop their prices to retain the consumers from migrating to the rival network.
