Telecom operators are not giving up on their fight against Reliance Jio and are announcing lucrative data plans one after the other. The offer is valid only in Maharashtra and Goa, and applicable for 4G handset users. However, non-4G users can still benefit 2GB data and unlimited local and STD calls valid for a period of 35 days. Vodafone’s announcement comes on the heels of a similar plan launched by rival Airtel. The operator announced a Rs 399-plan under which it is offering 84GB 4G data for 84days. Under the plan, Airtel is offering 1GB data per day along with unlimited local and STD calls with a weekly cap of 1,000 calls. If the cap is exhausted, users will be charged Rs 0.10 per minute for Airtel to Airtel calls and Rs 0.30 per minute for calls to other networks. These plans by Vodafone and Airtel are against Reliance Jio’s existing plan under its new Dhan Dhana Dhan offer. The plan is priced at Rs 399 and offers 84GB of data for 84 days. Other than the benefit of high-speed 4G access, the Jio plan also allows unlimited local and STD calls, SMS, roaming to all networks, and access to Jio apps. However, there is a cap of 1GB usage per day, after which the data speed is throttled to 128Kbps till midnight.
Even as the price war between the operators continue, Reliance Jio has found its way to expand its territory in the data-hungry nation. The company announced that it is now ready to commercially roll out its broadband service Jio Fiber this Diwali. Similar to the voice and data service, the Jio Fiber service will also be launched at disruptive pricing. It will offer 100GB data at Rs 500, with speeds of up to 1Gbps. The service has been under beta since late last year and is expected to be rolled out in 100 cities by late October.
