Vodafone has introduced a new long-validity prepaid plan to take on Airtel and Jio in the fight for more subscribers. The Rs 279 prepaid plan is only available in limited circles for now, and is focused on users who intend to place more calls with low data usage. The plan has a validity of 84 days, and offers unlimited calling and up to 100 SMS per day. Do note that the unlimited calls on this Vodafone plan are subject to TRAI’s FUP limits of 250 minutes per day and a maximum of 1000 minutes per week.
Apart from this, the plan also offers 4GB of data usage on Vodafone’s 4G/3G/2G network. The data usage is valid for the entire validity, which isn’t much in comparison to some of the data-heavy plans from Vodafone that currently offer 1.4GB of data per day. However, the low rental and the availability of free calls across the country on Vodafone networks makes this a quality option for users who use their phones primarily to place calls.
As is the case with other Vodafone plans, roaming is free and unlimited across the country, so the benefits of the plan are available even if the user is outside their home circle. The average cost per month comes to around Rs 100, which offers value to users who place a lot of phone calls. However, users who intend to use data services on smartphones heavily would be better served by the Vodafone Rs 458 plan, which offers similar benefits along with 1.4GB of data per day.

In comparison, Reliance Jio and Airtel also offer similar plans, with Jio offering an 84-day validity plan at Rs 399. This plan also offers unlimited calls and 100 SMS per day, but also gives 1.5GB of high-speed data usage per day, after which the speed is throttled to 64kbps. Similarly, Airtel also offers a Rs 399 plan with similar benefits, although the validity is a bit less at 70 days.
