In the wake of cyclone Phailin that hit Orissa and parts of Andhra Pradesh last week, Vodafone has announced a special initiative with several measures. It has installed an insta-network solution to assist government agencies in relief and rehabilitation work and provide assistance to those affected. The Insta Network has been put up in Chhatrapur in Ganjam district of Orissa. The operator is also providing other measure like arranged coverage supported by 5 mobile vans with multi-plug sockets. Like it did during the floods in Uttarakhand, the company has also launched a Chota credit service available to all its customers, who can take credit by dialing *130 # and can also transfer balance to others. It has also started providing assistance to customers on their call centre on 111 about district-wise shelters home or government disaster management helpline and more.
Earlier, Google had released its people finder tool to help find people displaced during the evacuation process in the affected areas. Twitter had also created a subscriber list of journalists, media and government agencies that were sharing credible information about the cyclone over Twitter.
