Vodafone continues to roll out its 4G Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services across India. And finally, subscribers who own a Google Pixel 2 XL smartphone will be able to enjoy the service soon. Of course, they will have to wait for an Android update from Google. The VoLTE support means a higher quality of voice calls.
VoLTE enables the user to make a call using the IP technology on LTE networks for better quality of audio. Reliance Jio‘s arrival boosted the consumer interest in IP-based voice calls over LTE, and faster data connectivity without falling back to the 2G or 3G networks.
Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL users reported many issues with the handsets since their launch. But Google Pixel 2 XL owners with Airtel and Vodafone connections were miffed about the lack of 4G VoLTE support on their phones. And Jio supporting VoLTE on Pixel 2 out-of-the-box added fuel to the fire.
Google’s Issue Tracker indicates that the issue was about lack of VoLTE on Pixel 2 XL devices using Vodafone’s network in India was reported in June. Meanwhile, Airtel and Vodafone started rolling out 4G VoLTE services across different circles in India. Google has finally resolved this issue as per an update about Pixel 2 VoLTE support for Vodafone India in the Google’s Issue Tracker. However, Pixel 2 XL users will have to wait for a software update to see the VoLTE option.
Soon Vodafone will begin testing the update to ensure that VoLTE indeed works for the Pixel 2 XL devices in India. Only after successful testing, the update will be rolled out to the users, XDA-Developers reports. It might take weeks, and there is no timeline available for the update’s arrival.
