Volvo XC40 spotted on German website; likely to debut soon

The baby SUV from Volvo is expected to get crossover credentials with a hybrid powertrain

All of us have been waiting for a first look at the Volvo XC40, but the wait was getting longer and longer. Until now we had just seen the interiors that had been spied by an international website, but now, Instagram user Volvo.lov has posted the image of the rear end of the XC40. The user claims that the image was uploaded on Volvo Germany s official website, but has since been taken down. The image gives a look into the boomerang shaped LED taillights shimmering in a dark background. Also Read - Car makers Hyundai, Kia invest $300 million in Ola

Only known details about the Volvo XC40 include a wide range of customization options for interiors like the warm Lava Orange carpet, an Oxide Red upholstery for carpets, headliners and door inserts. The customization options, as usual, will appeal to a younger audience, and plays a major role in making or breaking the buyer s decision these days. The engine options available will include the 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder gasoline engine while there is also expected to be an optional plug-in hybrid version with 55kW electric motor, which will be a part of Volvo s systematic phasing out of diesel engines out of production. The engine will be mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission that is seen on several other Volvo models as well.

XC40 is going to be Volvo s smallest SUV, and will compete against the likes of BMW X1, Audi Q3, Jaguar E-Pace, Mercedes-Benz GLA and Jaguar E-Pace. If the pricing can be anywhere near competitive then it will seriously require the competition to rethink their strategies. The tentative launch of the Volvo XC40 is expected to be in mid-2018.
