Torture tests on smartphones are common these days, with the iPhone 8 going through the gruelling test courtesy of YouTuber JerryRigEverything. The Apple iPhone 8 has been put through a nightmarish sturdiness test. Before looking at how the iPhone 8 fared in the scratch, bend and fire test, a gentle reminder that the Apple’s iPhone 8 comes with a new glass and aluminium design, and isn’t built for the level of damage it undergoes in this video. The smartphone also comes with water and dust resistant capacities. The iPhone 8 offers incremental improvements over last year s iPhone 7. Apart from that, Apple has claimed that the glass on this year’s iPhone is the strongest ever in any smartphone. While we might take Apple’s word for it for now, let’s see how the new Apple iPhone 8 performs in the durability test.

Scratch test: The video starts off with a scratch test on the iPhone 8. The screen managed to remain unscratched until level six on the scale from 2-6. After level 6, the display shows signs of scratches which got deeper at level 7. The YouTuber also notes that this is the exact same score that the iPhone 7 got last year. The scratch test was later tested on front camera and speaker grilles as well. The speaker grilles, as noted was rightly fixed in its position and the front camera was left scratch-less. Up front, the scratch test was also carried on the home button with his razor blade suggesting they won t get damaged easily while in the pocket. Moving to the back of the device, the test saw the back of the phone being scratched with a razor blade but remains undamaged.

The Apple logo and the ‘iPhone’ text are layered under the glass, which keeps it safe from wear and tear. Next, the camera lens is scratched with the razor blade which experiences no damage. However, scratches are visible at level 6. According to the YouTuber, Apple could be using its own proprietary blend of Sapphire, because the original Sapphire glass does not scratch until level 8. Apart from that, the camera lens, volume rocker and power button also resisted scratches. The sides of the phone are capable of handling keys and coins but, his razor, however, could remove some paint from the metal frames.

Burn test: Moving on, the iPhone 8 also survived the burn test with flying colors. When the flames touched the display, that particular spot turned black after about 10 seconds. But when the display was switched off, the spot disappeared as if nothing had happened. Bend test: Lately bend tests have been popular ways to see how durable new smartphones are. The video sees the iPhone 8 being bent by applying pressure in the middle of the phone. In the last test, he tries to bend the smartphone with his hands in full force. No damage takes place on the smartphone and it holds up extremely well.

He also brings to our notice that last year with the iPhone 7, the waterproofing feature was ruptured due to the bend test and that has been corrected with the iPhone 8.
