While Xiaomi s budget smartphones offers the latest features, one of their USPs has always been great design and build. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is a good example of this as it features a blend of metal and plastic at the back and the Corning Gorilla Glass coating at the front. That said, in his video, YouTuber Zack Nelson does mention Xiaomi s other smartphone, the Mi 5 to not have fared well in his torture test. You can find out the fate of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro below. In the video posted on JerryRigEverything, the YouTuber puts the budget smartphone through a series of tests, which include scratch test, flame durability and a bend test. In the scratch test, the screen manages to resist scratches to level 6, with deeper groves only showing up at 7. The score is pretty good compared to 2018 standards. Even the razor blade does only minimum to no damage to the screen or the camera lens at the top.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro features metal at the back and on the sides, with plastic at the bottom. Overall, it did a good job of surviving the torture from the blade. That said, after scratching the fingerprint scanner, it seized to work. While that is more damage than what a smartphone will face in its whole life span, Nelson does mention that some fingerprint sensors continue to work after the scratch test.
Moving on, the IPS display also managed to survive the YouTuber s flame test pretty well. When sticking a lighter to the screen, the pixels did go off, but recovered completely only after 9 seconds. Problems only occurred during the bend test, where the metal frame clearly got separated from the glass finish. A kink could also be spotted between the volume keys and the Power/standby button. That said, the smartphone still managed to survive the heavy pressure. In the closing lines of his video, Zack mentioned the Redmi Note 5 Pro to survive his durability test.
