WhatsApp beta for Android has received its latest version update, which has brought some key new additions to the app. The biggest addition is support for high priority notifications. The new feature is available on the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android, version 2.18.118, which is rolling out now. This allows users to enable high-priority notifications for either individual chats or group chats, letting messages be pinned to the top of the notification center. We tried it out, and the feature does indeed work on the latest version. In order to access the setting, users will need to go into the settings menu within WhatsApp, and will find the option under the ‘notifications’ option. Enabling this will ensure that WhatsApp notifications show above all other notifications, and the option to choose whether you want it enabled or disabled individually for private chats or groups is a handy addition. If your smartphone has other applications that also support high-priority notifications, WhatsApp will not necessarily be on top, and notifications will show in chronological order as always. The ‘Dismiss as Admin‘ feature is quite different, in that its availability is entirely different from the Android beta program. The feature is available for the latest stable version of WhatsApp on iOS (version 2.18.41) and the web downloadable version for Android (version 2.18.116). It will allow group admins on WhatsApp to remove a group member’s admin privileges, while retaining them as a member of the group.

However, what is unclear is if there is a ranking-based system by which an admin would have the ability to remove another admin’s privileges in a group, and how WhatsApp decides who is the higher-ranking admin. Strangely, the feature is no longer available with the latest version of WhatsApp beta for Android.
