WhatsApp beta app gets notification channel support on Android Oreo devices

WhatsApp beta version on Android 8.0 Oreo now has support for the new Notifications channel feature. The feature is live in the beta version, and beta tester on the Google Play Store can try it out. WhatsApp beta’s latest update is said to bring more control over notifications from the app in Android 8.0. The new feature comes with WhatsApp’s latest version 2.18.19.

According to AndroidPolice, WhatsApp beta app v2.18.18 brings the notifications channels on smartphones running Android Oreo. WhatsApp comes with 10 notification channels – group notifications, message notifications, chat history, backup, critical app alerts, failure notifications, media playback, uncategorized, other notifications, sending media, and silent notifications. Each of the notification channels has its own settings that can be customized according to users needs, and you can also prioritize some notifications over others.

The report further explains how to use the feature. First, you need to be a part of Beta tester for WhatsApp to try the new feature. To disable annoying notification, simply long press the notification that you receive and disable it. To change only the priority of any notification, tap on ‘All categories’, and you will be taken to the ‘Settings’ screen where you can tweak the settings as per your choice.

Along the notification channel integration, the most recent WhatsApp beta additionally comes with the power to let customers transfer from voice to video calls. Which means that you’ll be able to seamlessly change between voice and video calls without ending the call.
