WhatsApp recently rolled out the beta update v2.17.295 for developers and early adopters, and it reportedly shows traces of an integrated payment solution. This indicates that WhatsApp might foray into digital payments soon. To say the least, the company seems to have already started moving its effort in the direction. According to folks at XDA Developers who dug deep into the beta update, WhatsApp is working on a new feature called WhatsApp Payments. The feature will allow direct transfer of funds from one bank account to another. Since we are talking about a beta update, it goes without saying that the feature is still under development and once ready, it might be introduced to the general public. A beta update does not affirm that a feature will make it to final rollout. It is on WhatsApp and the company might just decide to can the idea for now or whatever.
What seems like silver lining here is the fact that currently most of the tech giants are working ways around injecting their own payments solutions on consumer platform. Facebook, Apple, Google, Amazon is to list a few and WhatsApp might just join the bandwagon. Notably, this is not the first instance of when reports have tipped about WhatsApp working on a payment solution.
