So the voice calling feature on WhatsApp has been doing the rumor rounds for ages. We’ve had many leaks pointing towards its imminent arrival. Now, AndroidWorld.nl has put up a bunch of photos that shows what the voice calling feature on WhatsApp will look like.
The screenshots show how one can make a call via the app. By the looks of it, the calling functionality is separate from the chat room. There is a separate window for the dial button, and when you dial, the WhatsApp profile picture of the user takes over the screen. This feature, being called WhatsApp Call, has not yet been confirmed by the company though.
We are not sure of the availability, or the pricing on this service. Whether the company will roll it out for free, or get people to pay some money for it, remains to be seen.
WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum had confirmed in October that the voice calling feature was in the works, but has been delayed due to technical difficulties. He also hinted that the feature could arrive in the first quarter of 2015. As we bid goodbye to 2014, with this leak, the announcement seems rather close.
