In the middle of the Cambridge Analytica data scandal, WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton has added his voice to the backlash, and called out people to delete Facebook.

Acton’s reaction comes after a somewhat campaign was kicked off by several media outlets that were publishing guides to permanently deleting your Facebook account.

Facebook has come under fire this week after reports emerged that political data analytics company Cambridge Analytica accessed the data of over 50 million users of the social media network without their permission.

Cambridge Analytica gathered most of this data from the creator of a quiz taken by 270,000 Facebook users. That quiz creator passed the data to Cambridge Analytica against Facebook policy. Facebook knew about the data leak back in 2015, but the public only learned after reports in the New York Times and Observer last weekend.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and COO Sheryl Sandberg have since remained quiet throughout the scandal, which unfortunately for them, has invited yet more criticism from analysts, investors and users in general.

Meanwhile, The Guardian quotes a Facebook spokeswoman saying, “Mark, Sheryl and their teams are working around the clock to get all the facts and take the appropriate action moving forward, because they understand the seriousness of this issue.” “The entire company is outraged we were deceived. We are committed to vigorously enforcing our policies to protect people’s information and will take whatever steps are required to see that this happens.”

The scandal has also once again given rise to the argument for more regulation of big tech companies.
