While each day closer to the weekend is a good day, yesterday wasn’t particularly good for instant messengers. While WhatsApp faced a global outage for a few hours last night, Facebook Messenger was also reported to be giving troubles in sending and receiving messages.

WhatsApp’s outage report spiked on the Down Detector at around 11:30PM last night and appeared to last more than half an hour. A WhatsApp spokesperson confirmed the outage to Independant saying, “WhatsApp users around the world are unable to access the service. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to fix the issue as soon as possible.” As of now, the service has been fully restored.

Facebook Messenger, on the other hand, was also down for hundreds of iOS, Android, and desktop users. People were complaining that hitting send was doing nothing there, and their typed messages remained in drafts. Messenger experienced a similar outage in September, prompting Facebook to install an update to fix the problem.

Facebook confirmed the outage, saying (via Metro), “On Thursday November 30 just after midnight Pacific time we became aware that a few people were having issues with their Messenger accounts. We investigated and responded and the problem is resolved. We’re sorry for any inconvenience.”
