Following the Picture-in-Picture mode for video calls, WhatsApp might be getting the same feature on Android for video watching inside WhatsApp in a pop-up/floating window while you still continue to navigate in the chat.

According to WABetainfo, WhatsApp has submitted a new update through the Google Play Beta Program where in it is seen to have picture-in-picture mode support for Android. The update submitted by WhatsApp will bring the Android app version to 2.18.234.

The report notes that after the feature was added to WhatsApp for Android, users will see a Play icon for the video in the Picture-in-Picture mode while they continue to navigate in the chat. It is possible that the feature also works with YouTube and Instagram videos too.

After implementing the feature on WhatsApp for iOS, we were expecting it to come to Android, and now the beta submitted by WhatsApp suggests that it is getting ready for the stable rollout.

WhatsApp’s Picture-in-Picture for Android was rolled out to Android 8.0 Oreo users last year in September. The feature of lets you run a video call in a small pop-up window even if the main app is minimized or you continue texting on the app while on call.

Watch video: WhatsApp got all these features in 2017

WhatsApp already lets you watch YouTube videos within the messaging app itself, without the need to exit. The feature was rolled out in January this year for iOS users. So when a friend sends a YouTube link to anyone using WhatsApp on iPhone, they don’t need to exit the messaging app to watch it. The YouTube clip plays inside a floating window.
