In a case of WhatsApp rage, a group of seven people have been booked for beating up a WhatsApp group admin who deterred the members from posting obscene photos and messages in the group. The incident occurred in New Shastri Nagar of Basti Jodhewal, Ludhiana, Punjab, HT reports. The accused Narinder Kumar and six other unidentified people had accompanied him to assault the victim, Raj Kumar. A case has been registered against under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 323 (for voluntarily causing hurt), 149 (against every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) and 506 (for criminal intimidation). The victim runs a WhatsApp group where Narinder and others used to post indecent pictures, Kumar told the police while registering a case. He further added that Narinder and six other people assaulted him after he had deterred them from posting the obscene photos and messages.
It is important to point out that on January 31; a 19-year-old boy had committed suicide following an argument on a WhatsApp group. A couple of more incidents also occurred last year, where a WhatsApp group admin was arrested for posting objectionable content, whereas other was attacked for dropping members.
