While it’s not that difficult to guess the most popular apps in the world, it’s quite interesting to see how much time we have spent on them. Now a recent statistic released by the app analytics company, Apptopia, states not only the most popular apps used in the last three months, but also mentions how much time users have spent on them collectively. According to the report, users have spent about 85.21 billion hours on WhatsApp. To give you a perspective, that’s more than 9 million years spent on the messaging website. The interesting thing is that it’s not the only messaging website in the top 10 apps list. It is followed by WeChat in the second position and Facebook Messenger in the fourth position. When it comes to Google Play store and Apple App store, WhatsApp and Facebook are leading the chart respectively. The report claims Facebook to have been used for 30.99 billion hours only by iOS users. On the other hand, Android users have contributed 59.27 billion hours to WhatsApp’s total toll. The data also gives us insight on which kind of apps people spend most amount of time on. While messaging apps seem to be leading the list, it’s no surprise that users are also spending a lot of time on social media applications like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter which take their spot at third, seventh and eighth position respectively. Popular streaming applications like YouTube, Pandora and Spotify have also made the list. Lastly Google Maps is also present at the ninth position.
With the all the data, it is also important to note that more than half of the 10 applications are being contributed by Facebook and Google alone. Facebook owns about four applications in the list while Google owns two.
While a big part of users’ time is also spent playing game, the analytics company has listed the top 10 games separately. From the list, Clash of Clans is leading in the overall category and even in Google Play Store. It accounts for over 3.83 billion hours including both platforms.

While Fortnite has only been available on iOS, the game has managed to top the chart in the App store and come fourth in the overall chart. Apple users have spent about 2.98 billion hours playing the game. It’s rival PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battleground) on the other has been listed as the ninth most used game. A surprise however is that My Talking Tom is the second most used game in the overall chart.
