WhatsApp has crossed 30 million monthly active users in India and has also signed a deal with Tata Docomo to offer users with unlimited usage, Medianama reports. This is the second such deal it has struck with an Indian telco, after RCom last year. As a part of the deal, Tata Docomo will offer users unlimited WhatsApp usage for Rs 15 for a period of 15 days. Though the company s website doesn t explicitly mention it, a recent television ad (embedded below) revealed the plan. Last year, WhatsApp had signed a similar deal with RCom, wherein users got unlimited usage of WhatsApp for Rs 16 a month.
While chatting with Medianama, WhatsApp s business development head Neeraj Arora revealed that the service had crossed 30 million active monthly users in India, which is an increase from the last reported 25 million users. Overall, WhatsApp has continued its impressive growth among competition from other messaging apps, and earlier this year crossed 350 million active members.
