WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out Picture-in-Picture mode (PIP) for all Android users with devices running Android 4.4 and above. As per WABetaInfo, WhatsApp’s PIP mode now includes viewing videos inside WhatsApp in a pop-up/floating window while you still continue to navigate in the chat. This could include videos from YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and more.

Following the PIP mode for video calls, WhatsApp in August was reported to test this feature for select few testers. It was also reported that WhatsApp had submitted the update through the Google Play Beta Program with Android app version to 2.18.234.

WhatsApp’s Picture-in-Picture for Android was rolled out to Android 8.0 Oreo users last year in September. The feature of lets you run a video call in a small pop-up window even if the main app is minimized or you continue texting on the app while on call.

The similar feature can now be accessed in latest Android beta app for video watching. It will essentially let users tap on Play icon for the video in the Picture-in-Picture mode while they continue to navigate in the chat. It is also said to work with videos from YouTube and Instagram.

WhatsApp has already implemented the feature on its iOS app, and we were expecting it to come to Android soon. The feature was rolled out in January this year for iOS users. There is no confirmed time for the stable update yet, but beta availability to public suggests a final test before official Google Play update rollout.
