WhatsApp is growing steadily with over 1.2 billion users globally, and over 200 million monthly active users in India. The company has constantly added new features to its platform, with video calling being one of the recent additions in November last year. Video calling on WhatsApp is enabled across Windows, Android and iOS platforms. With WhatsApp being used by majority of smartphone users across the globe, video calling has become one of the easiest ways to communicate with family and friends. WhatsApp has revealed that India is the top country with most video calling minutes over 50 million calling minutes per day. On a global scale, WhatsApp has more than 340 million video calling minutes per day, with total number of 55 million video calls per day. The numbers are pretty interesting considering India has over 200 million WhatsApp users. One of the reasons for this growth can be attributed to the penetration of 4G network and rise in 4G smartphone usage. Also, mobile data charges have massively crashed over the past six months, enabling more users in India to connect to the internet. WhatsApp has also designed its video calling service to run smoothly on spotty networks, allowing users on 2G networks to make voice and video calls. Among the recent additions to the platform, WhatsApp introduced Status feature allowing users to share photos and videos that disappear in 24 hours. The feature is now used by 175 million users on a daily basis. iOS version of the app was recently updated with a new feature, allowing Siri to read out WhatsApp messages. In a recent beta version of Android app, the ability to recall sent messages and live location sharing features were spotted. Lastly, WhatsApp is also looking forward to integrate payments into its messenger app, which will allow users send money to other WhatsApp users in seconds.
