A small segment of users has taken to Twitter to report a new bug in WhatsApp Web. This new bug allows users to see the last seen of users in their contact list regardless of the privacy settings that their friends and family may have selected on their end. The thing to note here is that this behavior is quite erratic and only visible to some users. The concerning part is that users are able to see the ‘last seen’ even if the WhatsApp user on the other end has selected Nobody as the option under the Who can see my personal info section in the Privacy submenu in the Account setting.
Some users tweeted about this issue to WABetaInfo who tried to investigate the cause of this bug. Even after a number of replies on the platform, there was no clarity on what was causing the issue. WhatsApp Web even showed incorrect time instead of the actual ‘last seen‘ of some of the users. Though the Twitter thread pointed out that is likely that WhatsApp Web is pulling the ‘last seen’ of one of your contact that you were conversing with at the same time.

WhatsApp has not issued any statement in response to the complaints where users were reporting this issue. It’s been about a week since the initial complaints surfaced on the internet. This comes right after it was revealed that the company will make changes to the forward feature on the app by launching a test to limit forwarding. This limit will apply to everyone using the platform and specifically for India, the company will also test a lower limit which will allow users to forward any message to up to 5 chats at one time.
The company also announced that it will remove the quick forward button that is next to the media messages. This means that users will have to either long press on the message to select it and manually forward it or they will have to download it and then manually forward it using the media picker.
