Don’t like the current WhatsApp icon on Android? You can now change how it appears on your smartphone with the upcoming update. The Facebook-owned app has been added with support for the adaptive launcher which allows you to change the appearance of the WhatsApp logo from circle, square, rounded square, to squircle and teardrop. Discovered by Android Police, the new feature is enabled in WhatsApp beta version 2.18.74. The adaptive launcher essentially lets you change the icon style to match with the rest of the homescreen icons. The icon remains the same but it is just layered with a mask that takes a different shape depending on your set of adaptive icons. If you want to test out the adaptive WhatsApp icon, you can join the official program and install the beta version from Play Store. You will be required to use a compatible launcher with support for adaptive icons to test out the feature. It is worth noting that with Beta versions, there are always stability issues, so it is advisable to test out any new feature on a secondary device.

This adds to the bunch of new features WhatsApp has recently introduced. Recently, it was found testing the ‘Locked Recording‘ feature for Android. The feature had been available on iOS and is expected to soon roll out to Android. It essentially allows you to record longer audio without having to press and hold the microphone icon.

Another recent feature added for Android users was the extended duration for deleting sent messages. Discovered in the new beta build of WhatsApp for Android, it allows users up to 4,096 seconds or (68 minutes and 16 seconds) to delete the message for everyone in the chat.
