WhatsApp s Deleting Messages for Everyone feature works in single conversations, and in group chats as well. The feature is pretty simple to use. All you have to do is tap and hold on the message, and choose Delete from the list of actions listed above. After this, you need to select Delete for everyone to wipe out the message from your chat. WhatsApp already has the delete option for messages, and hence the Delete for everyone option added.
Note that, this option will last only for seven minutes after the message is sent. Within seven minutes you can choose to delete the message. You can also use this feature for other content sent like images, videos, GIFs, voice messages, contact cards, files, location, among others. On iOS, if someone uses this feature, then the revoked or recalled messages will also be deleted in the notifications center on iOS. Android users will see this message flashing on their smartphone – This message was deleted for everyone . ALSO READ: WhatsApp Live Location sharing rolls out in India for iOS, Android apps
As previously reported, WhatsApp sends a fake copy of the message to the recipient. When the message is received, WhatsApp will check if the message ID is there in its database, locate it and then delete it. This way, the message won t be available in the chat history of the recipient. While seven minutes seems a generous time, you will probably have to be quicker than that to revoke an unfortunate sent message.
